This Music Bio looks at the life of Elvis Aaron Presley was born January 8, 1935 and died August 16, 1977, he was known simply as Elvis. He was regarded as one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century, he is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King". His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, led him to great success and initial controversy. He died in 1977 at the age of 42 from a heart attack likely brought on by excessive use of presciption barbiturates. He is still loved and mourned today by his legion of fans in all parts of the world.
