Description
The repair of facial and body injuries, known as plastic surgery, dates back more than 4,000 years. Its lineage can be traced back through the Egyptian, Greek, Indian and Roman Empires. Historically, plastic surgery has undergone a great deal of evolutionary modifications since its beginnings as a way to eradicate slave brandings and mend war wounds, then moved on to altering birth deformities and repairing misshapen earlobes, and, ultimately to its relative newcomer offshoot, cosmetic surgery, transforming the face and body to match shifting ideals of beauty based on the era.
